On June 10, 2021, angry youths from Bonny Island in Rivers State attacked journalists on duty at the premises of Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas Limited and burnt down the bus conveying them as well as their gadgets left in the bus when they escaped from the irate youths.
The youths had gathered at the gate of the company protesting an alleged unjust distribution of N3 billion annual community development grants from the company to the host communities when the bus conveying the journalists arrived and the angry youths swooped on them.
The journalists who had been invited by the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas Limited preparatory to the take-off of the $10 billion Train 7 project escaped in a dugout canoe that ferried them across a creek to safety at Coconut Estate.
