Bayero University, Kano (BUK) is set to launch its digital community radio and television stations. The institution’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mohammad Yahuza Bello, disclosed this at the 34th convocation ceremony of the university on April 3, 2018.

Prof. Bello said Bayero University will be the next tertiary institution, after the University of Lagos, to operate full-fledged radio and television broadcasting in Nigeria.

The Vice Chancellor disclosed that installation of imported digital equipment for the stations had reached advanced stage adding that the institution had secured the operational licence for its radio station.

He also said digital television transmission would commence as soon as the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) grants it a TV licence.

On November 11, 2017, Professor Rahamon Bello, then Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), commissioned UNILAG TV at the Department of Mass Communication, making it the first campus television station to operate in West Africa. This followed the granting of a TV licence to UNILAG on November 9, 2017 by the NBC.
