The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), the largest global union of journalists’ trade unions in the world, representing over 600,000 media workers from 187 organisations in 146 countries, has announced the newly elected members of its Executive Committee following its Centenary (100) World Congress held in Paris on May 6 and 7, 2026.

A total of 22 delegates were elected to lead the organisation for the next term, which will run from 2026 to 2029. The election brought together journalists’ unions and associations from different regions of the world.

The new leadership team includes Zuliana Lainez Otero of Peru, who was elected as the new IFJ President. She becomes the first woman from Latin America and the Caribbean to lead the global journalists’ body.

Other key positions include Nasser Abu Baker of Palestine as Senior Vice-President, Zied Dabbar of Tunisia and Jennifer Moreau of Canada as Vice Presidents, and Raffaele Lorusso of Italy as Honorary Treasurer.

Several other members were also elected as advisers and representatives from countries across Africa, Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas. They will help guide the work of the IFJ, especially in promoting press freedom, protecting journalists, and strengthening unions.

The IFJ says the new Executive Committee reflects global diversity and strong representation from different regions. The organisation added that the leadership will focus on defending journalists’ rights and improving safety for media workers worldwide.
