The Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Mr Charles Ebuebu, has called on content creators in Nigeria to work closely with the Commission to ensure the success of the Digital Switchover (DSO).

Speaking at the induction ceremony of the Electronic Media Content Owners Association of Nigeria (EMCOAN) in Lagos on March 25, 2026, Mr Ebuebu said the move to digital broadcasting will create new opportunities for visibility, income, and collaboration.

He explained that the success of the DSO depends largely on the availability of quality content. According to him, without enough engaging programmes, the full benefits of digital broadcasting may not be achieved.

The NBC is also planning to launch the FreeTV Direct-to-Home platform and a FreeTV mobile app, which will help content creators reach audiences across the country. These platforms will also provide useful data and opportunities for partnerships.

The DG commended EMCOAN members for their role in growing Nigeria’s creative industry and encouraged them to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the digital transition. He added that the Commission is committed to promoting Nigerian stories, culture, and creativity both locally and internationally.

Other officials, including NBC Lagos Zonal Director Ralph Akpan, also attended the event. Participants were encouraged to support the digital transition and ensure it is driven not just by technology, but by strong local content.
