One World Media is calling for entries for its “One World Media Awards” which recognize the best coverage of the developing world and highlight the unique role of journalists and filmmakers in bridging the divide between cultures worldwide.  Winners will be honoured at an Awards ceremony which will take place on June 17, 2019.

Established in 1988, the One World Media Awards seek to raise awareness of underreported issues and stories on social, political or cultural life in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Latin America, the Middle East and former Soviet republics.

The awards recognise the best media coverage of the developing world, reflecting the social, political and cultural life of people around the globe. It highlights the unique role of journalists and filmmakers in bridging the divide between cultures worldwide and raising awareness of underreported issues and stories.

The competitions is open to journalists whose works have been printed, broadcast or screened either in the United Kingdom or internationally for a global audience.

It has 15 categories, celebrating works from all media platforms and across a wide range of genres; and a special award for an independent media outlet based in a developing country.

Interested applicants must have their works published between February 14, 2018 and February 13, 2019. Any entries not in English must be translated, subtitled or dubbed.

All entries should focus on stories, topics or issues in, about or related to the developing world, including Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Latin America, the Middle East, Russia or the Post-Soviet States. Jurors will be looking for media that covers underreported stories or new angles and approaches to more familiar stories.

Applications close on February 14, 2019.
