Dutch NGO Organises ‘No News is Bad News’ Workshop in Abuja

Free Press Unlimited, a Dutch media development organization, is set to hold a ‘No News is Bad News’ (NNBN) workshop from February 5 to 8, 2017 in Abuja, Nigeria.

The three-day baseline workshop is designed to create discourse and dialogue around the state of press and internet freedom and the media in Nigeria. It will take a look at how to create an enabling environment, accountability and strengthen capacity within the sector.

Free Press Unlimited has experience working in over 40 countries across the globe to improve press freedom through various programs ranging from capacity building, setting up independent media, developing innovative tools and providing support to journalists in high risk countries.

Nigeria is a new country for Free Press Unlimited which provides a dynamic media landscape and the workshop intends to make use of this opportunity. Participants would include experts from the media, civil society, non-governmental community along with representatives of the government to ensure that a wide range of insight is taken into account.

The topics to be covered during the workshop include: Enabling environment of the media in Nigeria (including safety, legislation); Lobby and Advocacy of the media in Nigeria; and Gender and the media and accountability among others.

There will also be a welcome dinner organized on February 5, 2017 for all participants.
