The London-based Thomson Foundation has launched a digital security and safety learning platform for journalists across the African continent designed to equip reporters and other media professionals with essential tools to protect their work, sources, and themselves.

Launched on the Foundation’s revamped “Journalism Now” learning platform, the MediaSafe Africa is a practical and accessible resource developed by Thomson as part of a wider project implemented in partnership with the Legal Aid Forum (LAF) and funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).

According to Thomson Foundation, MediaSafe Africa features a four-part video series grounded in real scenarios, practical tips for staying secure online and in the field, and content shaped by the realities of journalism in African contexts, from secure communication to protection against surveillance.

The course series is a set of four courses designed to help investigative reporters, aspiring journalists, or other media professionals protect themselves in an increasingly complex digital environment and navigate the digital landscape with greater confidence and awareness.

The practical and accessible resource offers expert guidance and support on digital security, tailored for the realities journalists face every day.

Each course takes about 10 minutes to complete and can be followed at the individual’s own pace. Once all four courses are completed, the participant will receive a certificate from Thomson Foundation.
