The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), in conjunction with the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), has developed draft guidelines for the use of Television White Spaces (TVWS) for rural broadband connectivity in Nigeria and is organising an Industry consultation to present the draft Guidelines to industry stakeholders.

A statement by the Director of Public Affairs, Mr Henry Nkemadu said all stakeholders should download and review the guidelines on the Commission’s website available at: https://www.ncc.gov.ng/docman-main/legal-regulatory/guidelines/draft-guidelines/876-draft-guidelines-on-the-use-of-television-white-spaces-2019/file?fbclid=IwAR35XiLWlNaRTLiFAuG85CKlKv9X7uNSMgDnfs-BRbfhumdKvBDe51shnU8.

He directed the inputs and feedbacks on the Guidelines should be forwarded to the Commission on or before the industry consultation (date to be announced).

It is expected that the feedback will give NCC and NBC the opportunity to make all necessary adjustments prior to the Guidelines being finalised.

The online crowdsourcing encyclopaedia, Wikipedia, says White Spaces “in telecommunications, … refer to frequencies allocated to a broadcasting service but not used locally.”
