Film makers from around the world are encouraged to apply for the fifth edition of MegaCities-ShortDocs Film Festival, a festival of short documentary films which highlight initiatives that seek to bring effective solutions to MegaCities’ challenges and inspire people to take actions to improve the life of MegaCitizens in their MegaCity
Ideally, an entry should show a challenge in applicant’s MegaCity (such as transportation, education, refugees, health, climate change etc.). It should proffer solutions or ideas of new initiatives that could tackle these issues. The challenge should be potentially a theme with social or environmental impact covered by one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals from the United Nations.
The entry film must take place inside the urban area of one existing megacities (1 of the 38 metropolitan areas of more than 10 Million inhabitants: the list is available at http://megacities-shortdocs.org/faq/which-are-the-38-megacities-i-can-shoot-in/.
It must not be more than 4 minutes (including closing credits) and should integrate English subtitles: in the following pattern: Police: Calibri, Normal, 70, in white. Black outline, size 2. The subtitles must be kept on one line only, in the lowest part of the screen.
Criteria for selection include power of the solution in terms of inhabitants’ benefits and the challenges associated with it as well as replicability of the solution; quality of production initiative or start-up that and clarity of the messages, relative brevity and capacity for synthesis will be appreciated. The short video pitch should not be perceived as a pure advertising video. Additionally, description of the proposed the solution and perspective of development (internationally if relevant).
The awards are available in six categories and prizes as follows:
For the Best ShortDoc, trip to Paris and accommodation to attend the Award Ceremony and 2000 euros equally shared between the Shortdoc Maker and the Initiative Owner.
For the Special Jury Award, trip to Paris and accommodation and 1500 euros equally shared between the Shortdoc Maker and the initiative owner.
For the best Student, trip to Paris, accommodation and a prize of 750 euros

The Most Popular ShortDoc (“Public’s Choice Award”) gets a reward of 1000 euros
The Best Tech Initiative (“Tech4Good”), gets a trip to Paris and accommodation and 750 euros.
The Best Shortdoc of the “Metropole du Grand Paris” (Greater Paris Metropolis) gets a prize of 750 euros
By August 31, 2019 applicants must have registered on the website: http://megacities-shortdocs.org/register-form/ and to uploaded their ShortDoc on http://www.shortfilmdepot.com/. By the end of September, the results of the selection process of 15 to 20 nominees by an international professional Jury would be announced. By mid-November 2019, the Paris Award Ceremony, where the finalists (best ShortDoc Makers among the 15 to 20 nominees) will be invited and the winners given the award. Between November 2019 to end of May 2020, screenings will take place in a selected number of megacities around the world.
