The Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy has launched Project 774 LG Connectivity with the goal of delivering dependable internet access to all 774 local government secretariats in Nigeria. The launch, announced by the Minister, Dr. Bosun Tijani, seeks to foster inclusive development and enhance digital public infrastructure access, particularly in underserved regions.
By utilizing the resources of the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NigComSat) and Galaxy Backbone, the project smoothly aligns with both the Ministry’s Strategic Plan and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive for efficient public service delivery at the local government level. Project 774 LG Connectivity is anticipated to create 300 direct jobs and also expected to have broader economic impacts, emphasizing the transformative potential of connectivity in fostering transparency, economic growth, and citizen engagement across various sectors.
Making the announcement, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani highlighted the project’s significance in fostering inclusive development and expanding digital infrastructure access, even in the most remote areas of Nigeria that were previously underserved or unserved. The project is poised to drive transformation and unlock opportunities, contributing to sustainable development through the power of connectivity.
Aside creating a minimum of 300 direct jobs during the nationwide deployment, it has the potential for additional indirect employment opportunities resulting from increased digital access. He underscored the alignment of the project with the Ministry’s Strategic Blueprint and its significance in achieving President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive to enhance efficient public service at the local government level.
